When it comes time to repair your Acer laptop, you will often need replacement parts. However, because manufacturers use different parts for specific models of laptops, it is imperative that you find an exact replacement part. Finding the part number of the various parts of a laptop is not always easy, but this guide will give you a few options to help you along the way.

Parts Locator Tool

Many sites that sell replacement parts for laptops offer a parts locator tool. You can simply enter your make and model of laptop and the tool with show you parts that are compatible with your specific model. In many cases, this may be all you need to find a fully-compatible part for your Acer laptop.

User Manual or Service Manual

Another option for finding a proper replacement part is to look in the User Manual that came with your laptop, or find a Service Manual online. Often, a search for your laptop’s make and model followed by the term “service manual” will help you locate a PDF version of the service manual. Usually one or both of these manuals will list part numbers for the various replaceable parts for your Acer laptop.

The Part Itself

Many replaceable parts have a part number printed on them directly. A laptop battery, for example, usually lists the part number on a sticker or label. This is usually a last resort option, however, as it requires disassembling the laptop to access internal parts, which might render the laptop unusable until the replacement part arrives. Try the other methods before resorting to disassembly whenever possible.

By following the methods above, you should be able to locate almost any part number you will need for your Acer laptop. Once you have the proper part, the service manual can help you with replacement instructions.

If you are looking for a user manual for your Acer laptop, or trying to make a support request, you will often be asked for your model and serial number. It is also important to know your laptop’s model and serial number in the event that it is ever lost or stolen. Here are a few tips for finding the model number and serial number of your Acer laptop.

Under the laptop

The easiest and most obvious place to find your Acer laptop’s model number and serial number is the underside of your laptop. Look for a white sticker with a barcode. Above the bar code and to the right you will find the laptop’s model number. Under the barcode, after the heading S/N, you will find the laptop’s serial number. The serial number is usually 7 alphanumeric characters (letters or numbers) or 22 characters, depending on the model.

The Box

If your sticker is missing or unreadable, the next best place to look would be the box the laptop came in, assuming you still have it. The model and serial number should be located on a white label on the outside of the box.

Your Receipt

If you still have the purchase receipt for your laptop, the serial number may be included on this receipt, depending on where it was purchased. As before, look for a 7-character or 22-character alphanumeric sequence.

Software Solution

If all else fails, you may still be able to view your model number and serial number with the use of software such as CPUID, available at www.cpuid.com. This program will give you detailed information about your machine and its hardware, and will often give the model number and serial number for most models.

Once you have located your model number and serial number, make sure to write them down or print them out and keep them in a safe place. This information will be invaluable when you need to make a support request or in the unfortunate event that your laptop is lost or stolen.

Acer laptops are generally very solid and reliable, but any laptop can experience problems from time to time. If your Acer laptop keyboard has started to malfunction, and you are either out of warranty or want to avoid the hassle of returning it to the manufacturer, the next best choice may be to repair it yourself.

In most cases, replacing an Acer laptop keyboard is fairly straight forward, but the most important aspect is to find a replacement part that is compatible with your specific model of Acer laptop. Each model has a very specific keyboard layout, and most parts are not interchangeable between models.

When shopping for an Acer laptop keyboard replacement, it is recommended that you find an online retailer with a parts locator tool to find parts that are specific to your model. In most cases, simply typing the model number into a search box or browsing for your model will return only the results that are compatible.

Some retailers may give you the option of purchasing an OEM part or a “compatible” part. OEM stands for original equipment manufacturer. This is a part made directly by Acer. Compatible parts, on the other hand, are not specifically manufactured by Acer, but are designed to be compatible with your laptop, and meet the same exacting standards and specifications as an OEM part. Compatible parts are often much less expensive than OEM parts, giving buyers the same quality at a fraction of the cost.

Once you have a part that is specific to your model of Acer laptop, the next step is to perform the replacement. Do an online search for your laptop’s model and the term “service manual”. This will often result in a service manual for your model that can walk you through the correct steps to perform the repair yourself.

CD label technology has become a huge hit with many users on the market, who are tired of smudgy printer labels, bad handwriting on discs, or not being able to make creative professional designs. Now LightScribe and LabelFlash have come on the market and offer two very similar, yet slightly different approaches to sharp, neat designs for your CDs and DVDs.

LightScribe and LabelFlash have a lot in common. For example, both require specialized hardware. You can find LightScribe burners in many HP, Memorex, Samsung, and LG product, whereas LabelFlash is popular in many Pioneer products, as well as some Sony, Toshiba and Quanta products. Both also use similar technology to create images on your disc. A specialized coating is put on the top of the disc which, when struck by the laser of your optical drive, changes pigment. This creates the image you select to appear. This means for both products, only monochromatic designs are possible.

In LightScribe discs, the pigment on the discs becomes darker, whereas LabelFlash disc designs will be lighter, creating a negative space sort of image. LightScribe discs were originally available only in Sepia tones; however they can now be found in a variety of colors. LabelFlash discs are available in a single classic Blue color. Both discs say their labels are good for the life of your disc, however it is still recommended to keep your discs away from heat and direct sunlight to help prevent those images from fading.

It is important to note a few other key differences between these technologies. LabelFlash for example does not support the use of CDs, only DVDs. LightScribe however does support both. LabelFlash discs are also considerably more expensive that LightScribe CDs or DVDs. LightScribe also has the ability to burn an image multiple times, to improve the contrast of your image against the color of your disc. However, LabelFlash burns images slightly faster than LightScribe, and is also able to burn images into the negative space on the data side of discs. This means if you only fill half of your disc with data, you can burn an image or detail on that side of the disc as well, in the unburned space of your disc.

Finding a Toshiba laptop battery replacement should be a very easy task, but there are some tips and terms that will be helpful for finding the best price and the best compatibility with your laptop.

The first thing you should consider is whether to get an OEM battery or a compatible battery. OEM stands for Original Equipment Manufacturer and refers to a battery that comes directly from the manufacturer of your laptop. While you can rarely go wrong with an OEM battery, it is often the most expensive option, and for older laptops, OEM batteries may not even be available any longer. Compatible batteries are manufactured by a third party, but are designed to meet or exceed the specifications of the original to ensure compatibility and performance, and they are often much less expensive.

Here are a few terms and factors that you should know when shopping for a Toshiba laptop battery replacement:

Battery type

Most Toshiba laptop batteries will be Lithium-Ion batteries. Older laptops may use NiMH and NiCad Batteries; however these are older laptop battery technologies.

Voltage

Ensure that the replacement battery matches the voltage of your old battery. Common voltages are 10.8 volts, 11.1 volts, 14.4 and 14.8 volts. The voltage is typically printed right on the label of your original battery.

Capacity (mAh)

The mAh (milliampere-hour) measurement gives a general idea of the capacity of a battery. For example, a battery with 6600 mAh will provide a longer runtime than one with 4400 mAh. The battery’s capacity relates directly with Cell count and the capacity of the cells used to construct the laptop battery.

Cells

Batteries are made up of Lithium Ion cells, and different batteries utilize a different number of cells depending on the required voltage. In some cases, it is possible to find a replacement battery with more cells than the original, which should generally provide extended battery life. Often when more cells are added the physical size of the battery will be altered possibly making it larger and may cause it to protrude from the notebook unlike the original battery.

When shopping for a Toshiba laptop battery replacement, it is recommended that you use a quality supplier with a through selection. Also, try to find a supplier with the resources to properly identify a correct replacement laptop battery specifically for your model of machine. You can often find retailers online or even in your local area.

If your HP laptop is not charging the battery while your AC adapter is plugged into the laptop, you probably need a replacement Laptop AC Adapter. It is important to ensure you have the correct AC adapter for your specific HP laptop, as using an incorrect adapter could potentially cause damage. Here are a few methods for finding the proper HP laptop AC adapter.

The simplest method is to use an online parts locator tool. Many online retailers offer such a tool. Simply enter your HP laptop’s model number into the search and the tool will provide you with the proper replacement parts that are compatible with your specific model. The benefit of this method is that you are often given a choice of both OEM and third-party Laptop AC adapters for your HP notebook. Third-party adapters are often much less expensive than their OEM counterparts, and as long as they are purchased from a reliable source, should perform every bit as well as the OEM version.

Another method of finding the correct AC adapter for your HP laptop is to use the support software provided. Click Start, the Help & Support. Here you will find the product name, model number, and serial number. This will help you locate the correct part for your HP laptop. The product’s serial number is usually located on the bottom of the machine as well. You can call HP support directly to order a replacement AC adapter, though this will usually be the most expensive route. Another option is to call or email an online retailer with your model number and serial number, and they can often help you locate the correct part.

Finding replacement parts for an HP laptop is not as difficult as it once was, with the benefit of online parts locator tools. It is now a simple process to find parts even for older models. Take advantage of the many tools available for finding an AC adapter for your HP laptop.

Both, Toshiba laptop batteries and HP laptop batteries, utilize the very same technologies to develop their power sources. Lithium-ion batteries have become the most reliable and light-weight power source for mobile devices. There are various forms of Lithium-ion batteries, categorized by its amount of “cells”. The reason both Toshiba laptop batteries and HP laptop batteries use Lithium-ion technology, is because there is battery-memory and no scheduled cycling required to extend battery life.
