Laptop DVD Drive Replacement – Toshiba Qosmio

By FrankA • Mar 7th, 2009 • Category: Parts Replacement and Installation

To start disconnect the power and remove the laptop battery to prevent electric shock and keep the laptop with its back side up. Remove the covers from both hard drives and the memory panel; the memory panel and hard drive panels are located in the center of the laptop. Next remove the screws holding the hard drives in place and remove the hard drives. Move to the memory panel and remove both modules by squeezing the latches open to tilt and slide out the modules. At this point you may wish to spray the interior of the computer with compressed air to clean it of dust and dirt.

Next you need to remove every screw from the back of the laptop to allow the keyboard to be released as well as the front panels. Turn the laptop back over being careful not to lose the keyboard in the process. Gently pry the small bezel running the length of the keyboard up with a flathead screwdriver to reveal the screws holding it in place. Remove the two screws holding the keyboard in place and then press the latch found in the center of the laptop over the F6 key and flip over the keyboard to expose the cable cover. Remove the cable cover and then the wireless card cover to the right of the cable cover; both are an off-white color.

Before the keyboard can be removed the cable needs to be detached from the keyboard, do so now. On the left side of the laptop locate the plastic latch. It will be the same color as the cable cover for the keyboard. Slide this latch down along with the video cable cover and remove the cover. A single screw secures the DVD drive to the assembly; remove it and then slide out the DVD drive. Repeat these steps in reveres to complete the reassembly.
